After 23 years, the Melrose Cafe & Bar has permanently closed its 17th Avenue location.

In a press release posted on the cafe's website, the owners say they want to focus their attention on the Cowboys Casino.

It's not clear what will replace the popular restaurant.

The owners say they look forward to continuing to deliver the Melrose brand and the guest experience customers have come to know at the Cowboys Casino.

The abrupt news left many fans and neighbours feeling out of loop, with several turning to social media to voice their confusion.
