A Calgary man is recovering from surgery after he was assaulted this morning in the city's southeast neighbourhood of Fonda.
Witnesses say the man in his 30s showed up at a rooming house where his girlfriend lives with serious injuries.
"He was in the kitchen sitting at the chair and he was holding his face," says James Green, who also lives in the house.
"I didn't see what was going on at first but as I got closer I could see his shirt was just covered in blood. The bottom half of his face was just mangled."
Paramedics arrived and took the man to hospital, where he underwent surgery.
Police are now investigating a nearby scene at Memorial Drive and 36 Street where they believe the man may have been assaulted.
No one is in custody and police will not be releasing more details until they get more information from the victim.
