Five people had to be rushed out of the newly completed three-storey building in Mission when the fire broke out, damaging several units.

Smoke was billowing from a second-storey window when firefighters arrived at the building on the 2400 block of First Street S.W., said Battalion Chief Ernie Molineaux.

“The building is only partially occupied. It’s completed, but the suite that is actually involved is a show suite, and technically not occupied at this time,” he said.

“As crews entered they actually did encounter someone inside the suite and brought him out.”

That man is now being questioned by police to figure out why he was in the suite.
