A man was killed in a snowmobile accident in southeast Calgary early Sunday morning.
Police say four people were snowmobiling near 84th Street S.E. around 2:30 a.m. MT.
Two of the snowmobilers, a 25-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, were involved in the crash.
They were riding in a field when they hit a ditch and were thrown about 20 metres.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.
Stuart Brideaux, with Emergency Medical Services, says the location was a bit of a challenge.
"Although this did occur well within city limits, because it was in a field in a quasi-rural area in darkness, it presented some challenges for us. Although with our four-by-four capable SUVs, which are also equipped to paramedic level staffed with a paramedic, we were able to locate and initiate care quite effectively," Brideaux said.
He says it doesn’t appear the two victims were wearing helmets.
Police are now investigating and say speed and alcohol are likely factors.
