Man dies after being hit by C-Train
Pedestrian was crossing against the lights when northeast LRT struck him
A pedestrian is dead after he was hit by a C-Train in northeast Calgary on Tuesday night.
Police say the 28-year-old man was struck by a southbound train at 36th Street and 12th Avenue N.E. when he was crossing against the lights at about 8:30 p.m. MT.
He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and later died from his injuries.
“We have our collision reconstructionist looking at what’s in fact happened here,” said Sgt. Darren Wood.
Witnesses reported that all the lights were functioning and the bells and whistles were sounding, he said.
Another pedestrian hit
Another pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in southeast Calgary early Wednesday morning.
It happened at Ogden Road and 34th Avenue S.E. during the morning rush hour.
The victim has serious but non-life threatening head injuries. The driver was interviewed by police.
The city said earlier this week it is working on a new pedestrian safety strategy. A report on the issue is due back in about six months.
