Hockey Day in Canada will go ahead on the outdoor rink in Lloydminster after it looked for while that the events would have to be move indoors.

Strong winds tore down the boards and shattered glass around the outdoor rink this week but about 50 people got together to repair the damage in time for Lloydminster's big day — which organizers say showcases the town's resilience.

"Absolutely, 107 km/h wind I think was recorded and it caught it like a sail and it just tore the boards down," said Jeff Mulligan, one of the organizers. "In spite of a guy like me looking at this and saying, 'You know what, we'd better invoke Plan B and C,' our team said, 'There will be no Plan B and C, we're going to make Plan A the answer.'"

Hockey Day in Canada comes from Lloydminster Saturday morning.

Coverage will begin on CBC Television at 10 a.m. MT
