Lethbridge man who fell out of pick-up truck dead
Alcohol, drugs believed to be contributing factors in accident
A young man who fell out of a moving pick-up truck in Lethbridge has died.
Hayden Reeves Heavy Shields, 22, was taken to hospital with life-threatening head injuries at about 4 a.m. on June 6.
Lethbridge police say he had been riding in the box of a pick-up truck in the area of Ninth Avenue and Fifth Street South when he fell out and struck his head.
The 19-year-old female driver of the truck brought him to hospital but left before police arrived. The woman has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
"As the victim has died from his injuries, upgraded charges are pending," Lethbridge police said in a press release.
Police say they believe alcohol and drugs were involved.
