Learning English with CBC

Welcome to Learning English with CBC. These free English lessons use stories and interviews to help you learn about your city, community and workplace. They might also give you a sense of the province’s culture and economy.

Learning English with CBC has two types of free English lessons: weekly newscasts and monthly stories.

Weekly newscasts:

Each week new lessons will be added and each newscast is a round-up of stories that made news last week.

Monthly stories:

Each month a new lesson will be added and each monthly story is focused on living and working in Alberta. These lessons are longer and are suitable for students who have reached Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 6+. These monthly stories use audios from CBC programming.

Accessing the files

The audio files and documents can all be downloaded and kept on your computer absolutely free! You can also browse though older features and newscasts. The audio files are in MP3 format and will play on most computer audio players. The documents are in PDF format and can be read using Adobe Reader, which you can download for free. More details on what you will need are available.
