Kris Russell signs 2-year deal with Flames

Defenceman Kris Russell has signed a two-year contract with the Calgary Flames worth nearly $2.3 million US per season.

Defenceman Kris Russell has signed a two-year contract with the Calgary Flames worth nearly $2.3 million US per season.

A native of Red Deer, Alta., Russell has played 44 games this season with the Flames and netted four goals while adding 16 assists for 20 points.

The Flames acquired him from St. Louis this past off-season in exchange for Calgary's fifth-round selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. 

He has played 408 career NHL games with Columbus, St. Louis and Calgary.

The two-year, one-way contract has an average annual value of $2.26 million.
