A former Innisfail pharmacist faces charges in connection with the theft of a huge quantity of an opiate-based painkiller.

Police say the 34-year-old woman stole or tampered with roughly 14,000 Dilaudid pills over an 18-month period.

She was working at a Shoppers Drug Mart at the time.

The woman was arrested in February, but charges weren't laid until today.

She has been charged with fraud, theft and possession with intent to traffic.
