IKO sub-contractor being investigated for fire
3-alarm fire at roofing material manufacturer's property shut down Calgary roads temporarily
Despite its lengthy history of fires, it looks like IKO Industries may not be responsible for a fire at its Bonnybrook plant Tuesday.
Alberta Occupational Health and Safety confirms the fire started in a building that was being demolished by an independent contractor.
Spokesperson Brooks Merritt says they have recorded 13 fires at IKO from 2002 to 2009.
"I think it's important to mention that between 2009 ... to date there have been no further fires associated with the issues that we saw there earlier in the 2000s."
Fire investigators are still on scene and have not yet determined a cause.
OHS has closed the partially-demolished building pending a structural engineers report.
