An incredible work ethic is being displayed by 40 Calgary-area hockey players who have been hitting the ice continuously since last Sunday.

They've been pushing through the pain and fatigue as they try to break the Guinness World Record for the longest game ever played.

The event is looking to fundraise $1.5 million for pediatric cancer research and intensive care equipment for the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

Lyle Marshall is skating for his six-year-old daughter Diamond, who has been battling a rare form of adrenal cancer.

"It's very uplifting for our family and it's helped us, and very positive strength for us to keep continuing on through that difficult journey," he said.

Diamond Marshall made international headlines last summer when she got to meet Prince William and his wife Catherine during their royal visit to Calgary.
