HIV-positive man faces additional charge
John Joseph McNamara now faces 4 counts of aggravated sexual assault
Another charge of aggravated sexual assault has been laid against an HIV-positive man who Calgary police say was active on local internet dating sites.
John Joseph McNamara, 41, has asked his lawyer not to discuss the latest charge for alleged offences that took place in November 2001 and December 2002.
McNamara was arrested in February and charged by Airdrie RCMP with two counts of aggravated sexual assault for complaints dating back to early December 2012. He was granted bail in March.
But he was arrested again in June by Calgary police and charged with aggravated sexual assault and failure to comply with his bail conditions. Police say the victim met him at a social event.
Officials are advising women to avoid becoming involved with McNamara and engaging in unprotected sexual activity with him.
Police are also urging other women who have had contact with McNamara to contact them.
