Police and emergency crews were called out earlier Sunday after reports of a pile-up in the southbound lanes of the highway, just south of the Didsbury overpass. Reports suggested as many as eight vehicles were involved.

A woman in her 20s was injured in the incident and was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to Adam Loria with Calgary EMS.

Several other people at the were assessed at the scene by EMS but were not injured.

It's not clear what caused the accident but several tweets on Twitter suggest blowing snow was creating slippery sections on the road.
