High River property owners looking for compensation from the RCMP for door or window damage during last spring’s flood have until June 30 to submit a claim.

Claimants are asked to mail invoices to the High River RCMP detachment.

Invoices can also be emailed to high_river@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

Residents who cannot afford to complete repairs can submit a quote for the repairs with pictures of the damages, the town said.

The RCMP's civil litigation unit in Edmonton is in charge of authorizing the completion of the repairs.

So far more than 1,100 invoices have been processed and paid.

Some claims have not yet been paid because property owners still need to submit invoices to the RCMP or complete the necessary repairs, the town said.

RCMP officers entered many businesses and dwellings by force as they searched High River for people or animals in distress during the height of the emergency last spring.

The force came under intense criticism when it was revealed officers seized hundreds of firearms from evacuated homes.

RCMP officials responded that only firearms in plain sight were taken, as per standard operating procedures during such an emergency.
