Calgary police are warning the public about the release of a high-risk sex offender who has committed multiple offences against young girls across Canada.

Leon Martin Joseph Plamondon, 49, was released into the Calgary area late Thursday night after having served a more than two-year sentence.

Plamondon has a history of sexual assault and sexual interference. He previously committed offences in the Alberta communities of St. Paul, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge and Fort Saskatchewan, as well as in Belleville, Ont., and St. Walburg, Sask.

He will now be monitored by Calgary police through the high-risk offender program on a peace bond.

The peace bond under Section 810 of the Criminal Code is supervised like a probation order because of the threat of harm to a community or person.

A peace bond is not a criminal charge but charges could be laid if the conditions of the bond are broken.

Calgary police say they are informing the public after careful deliberation and consideration of all related issues, including privacy concerns.

The warning is being issued so that people can take appropriate safety precautions.

The public is urged not to take any form of vigilante action.
