Grizzly bear killed on Banff highway
Young collared male the first grizzly to die in Banff National Park this year
A grizzly bear was hit and killed by a vehicle on the Icefields Parkway last week, Parks Canada says.
The young male — which had been collared for monitoring — was killed on July 21 near the Hector Lake viewpoint, officials said.
The driver is reported to have been observing the speed limit at the time.
This is the first grizzly killed in Banff National Park in 2014.
Two black bears have died on Banff highways and one was killed on a train track, officials said.
