Glenmore Trail has reopened after being closed for the second time this week when an eastbound vehicle reportedly travelling in the westbound lane collided with another vehicle.
- Glenmore Trail upgrades not planned in wake of fatal crash
- 1 child dead, another injured in Glenmore Trail crash
Police say a white SUV was travelling eastbound in the westbound lane around 3:35 p.m. Wednesday when it collided with a five-tonne commercial vehicle.
Fire crews had to extricate the male driver of the SUV using hydraulic tools and he was transported to Foothills Hospital in serious condition.
Police have received reports that the driver was travelling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash and swerving in and out of traffic.
They are now investigating whether alcohol may have been involved.
The driver of the commercial truck hit by the SUV was not injured.
Police believe there may be video of the offender on the road and are trying to get hold of that tape.
Westbound Glenmore Trail was closed for several hours and drivers were are reporting significant delay of more than one hour.

On Saturday, one person was killed and four others seriously injured after a vehicle travelling eastbound on Glenmore Trail crossed over the centre median and collided with a westbound vehicle between Deerfoot and Blackfoot trails.
That was the second fatal collision on the same stretch of highway in the past couple of months.
The city says it has no immediate plans to upgrade the median or guardrails along that section of Glenmore Trail.
