1 dead, 4 in hospital after fatal Glenmore Trail crash
One woman is dead after a crash Saturday morning on Glenmore Trail between Blackfoot and Deerfoot trails and police are warning drivers to be cautious on the slippery roads.
Police say around 11:20 a.m. MT, a vehicle travelling eastbound on Glenmore Trail crossed over the centre median and collided with a westbound vehicle.
Four others were also injured in that crash and were sent to hospital in serious condition.
Emergency responders say the injured individuals included an elderly male, a five-year-old girl, a teenage girl and a woman in her 30s.
The woman killed was an elderly passenger in one of the vehicles.
Both the westbound and eastbound lanes will be closed for some time while police investigate the crash.
In the meantime, motorists are advised to slow down on Deerfoot Trail after a number of crashes due to slippery conditions.
Betweern midnight and 11 a.m., police reported 97 crashes around the city.
Fourteen of those involved injuries.
In one accident around 5 a.m., fire crews had to extricate two people from a vehicle that had gone off the road and hit a tree at 36 Street and Eighth Avenue S.E.
Both the driver and passenger suffered significant injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
That intersection remains closed while police conduct their investigation.
