Fort Macleod residents were asked to bring water to a boil for a minute before consuming.

Residents of the southern Alberta town of Fort Macleod are being asked to boil their water.

The order was issued late Monday night after a power failure caused problems for the water system. Residents are asked to bring water to a rolling boil for one minute before consuming it. The power failure is under investigation.

The boil water order could last two days, according to the town's website.
