The trial of a former foster parent accused of sexually assaulting teenage boys has been delayed again for medical reasons.

Garry Prokopishin’s trial was adjourned on Monday morning until March 15.

Defence lawyer Ian McKay said his client was admitted to a hospital on Sunday for a medical issue. It’s the second time Prokopishin's trial has been delayed for medical reasons.

"I don’t know when I will be able to take instructions from my client again," McKay said. "I do not expect him to be released anytime soon. "

Justice William Tillman said he couldn’t go ahead without an accused, so he postponed the trial.

Before the charges, Prokopishin and his wife had two decades of experience fostering teenage boys. The Alberta Foster Parent Association named Prokopishin one of its foster parents of the year in 2006.

Prokopishin was charged in 2010. Five people have stepped forward, alleging they were assaulted while living in his home.
