A former star player with the Calgary Stampeders is in trouble with the law.

Joffrey Reynolds appeared in handcuffs Monday afternoon at an immigration hearing in downtown Calgary.

Officials with Canada Border Services refuse to say what the hearing was about.

Reynolds was one of the Stampeders' best running-backs over an eight-year career before his release after last season.

Reynolds was also arrested after an alleged attack on his former girlfriend on the weekend.

Police say the 32-year-old Texan is charged with assault and break-and-enter.

He'll be back in court on July 26.
