Former Alberta politican Ron Stevens has died at the age of 64.
Stevens had a lengthy career in the legislature, held several cabinet posts and was the MLA for Calgary Glenmore.
He was appointed in 2009 as a judge with the Court of Queen's Bench.
Interim Premier Dave Hancock says his death is a great loss for Alberta.
"He stepped up in so many different ways he was deputy premier at one point. And always a big heart and really someone who served Albertans well always wanted to do better things for Albertans," said Hancock.
"Ron and I were both elected in '97 and worked together until he resigned to go to the bench in 2009. He served in many capacities when I was minister of Intergovernmental Affairs he did all the northern tour conferences for me."
Stevens' cause of death is not known at this time.
