A basement fire has caused significant damage to a home in northeast Calgary.

The fire happened at around 10:30 p.m. Monday night no the 200 block of Whitehorn Road.

Fire fighters got the blaze out quickly. The lower level has been badly damaged, and there's lots of smoke damage throughout the home.

Fire officials say there was one person inside at the time of the fire, but they made it out safely.

Investigators are still trying to figure out the cause.
