Fiery Highway 24 crash east of Calgary kills 1

A collision between a car and truck near Strathmore Thursday has left one person dead. Both vehicles caught fire. The victim was in the car. Police are still checking the vehicle to see if there are other victims.

RCMP say at least one person has been killed in a collision east of Calgary.

The accident happened just after noon on Thursday. A car collided with a semi-trailer truck on Highway 24 between Highway 1 and Glenmore Trail. Both vehicles caught fire.

Strathmore RCMP report that one person in the car has died. It is not known at this time if there were other passengers in the vehicle. The truck driver was not injured.

Police say the car crossed the centre line before colliding with the truck.

Highway 24 is expected to remain closed for most of the day.
