A 21-year-old Red Deer man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his four-month-old daughter.

Zaria McCall died last weekend from head injuries she sustained at home in Red Deer.

The infant was taken to the local hospital on Nov. 25 at about 6:30 p.m. by a parent and then airlifted to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. She died a few hours later.

Julian Thomson, the victim’s biological father, makes his first court appearance Friday morning at Red Deer Provincial Court. He is being held in custody.

Twenty six police officers worked more than 400 hours to investigate the girl’s death, RCMP said.
