Be prepared to wait a little longer at the airport if you’re taking to the sky this week as this week marks the busiest time of the year at the Calgary International Airport.

Jody Moseley, spokesperson for the Calgary Airport Authority, says being prepared is the best way to travel.

"Make sure you get to the airport early," Moseley said.

"You know, check with your airline to see what your requirement is, also look to see if there's any weather issues because sometimes getting to the airport is the biggest challenge because there's some weather outside, but think before you go, and do a little bit of research."

She also says airlines do their best to make everything flow smoothly during the holiday rush.

"Everyone is fully staffed and completely prepared for this Christmas rush. It happens every year, so the airlines are completely staffed, there's a lot of people out there who can answer questions," Moseley said.

She expects 50,000 travellers on Dec. 21, which is the busiest travel day of the year.

The Calgary Airport Authority is also offering a new service this holiday season.

"We also have a wrapping service, so in the event that you go through security and unfortunately they have to unwrap in order to check your goods, we can wrap them behind security for you," said Mosely.

She says leaving presents unwrapped will help travellers get through security more efficiently.
