RCMP and Correctional Service of Canada officials have found an inmate who was reported missing from the Bowden Institution.

Police say they have found a prisoner who escaped from the Bowden Institution north of Calgary Sunday.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says staff had discovered 64-year-old Maurice Rondeau was missing at 4:30 p.m. MT.

John McKill, spokesman for assistant warden management services at the Bowden Institution, says the inmate was found at around 9:35 p.m. Sunday roughly three kilometres north of the prison.

He was taken into RCMP custody without incident.

Rondeau is serving a three-year sentence for sexual interference. CSC officials say there will be an investigation into how he was able to escape.

Bowden Institution is a medium and minimum security prison about 110 kilometres north of Calgary.
