Police are looking for a suspect in connection with a violent carjacking assault on an elderly woman.

A 73-year-old woman was knocked to the ground by a man as she was leaving the Staples store at Northgate Village in northeast Calgary at around 3 p.m. MT on Tuesday afternoon.

The culprit grabbed her purse and stole her car, a beige 1997 Toyota Corolla.

The woman suffered minor injuries, police said.

"Just bumps and bruises. Other than being shook up. Obviously this is a very serious event. It's not all that common, but she was treated at the scene and then her son arrived at the scene to take care of her,” said Staff Sgt. Dan Guenette.

The suspect is a dark-skinned man in his 20s or 30s with a distinctively crooked nose. He was wearing a black bomber jacket.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers
