Calgary police say they have five people in custody after two men were shot in the city's southwest early Sunday morning.

Police say a fight broke out along 17th Avenue and Ninth Street just after 2 a.m. MT.

A staff member at the nearby Classic Jacks restaurant and lounge called police to say possible gunshots were heard from the parking lot.

Two men were shot and taken to hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

Police are speaking with several witnesses to determine what happened. The motive for the shooting still remains under investigation.

The victims and people in custody are known to police.
