Calgary police are investigating a suspicious death after discovering a woman's body in the southwest late last night.

Police were called just after 11 p.m. MT to check on the welfare of a person on a rural stretch of Highway 22X.

When they arrived they found a woman's body outside of the vehicle and a man at the scene.

"Investigators have interviewed witnesses, which included the driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old male," said Calgary police Duty Insp. Paul Malchow.

The woman was 24.

"The relationship between the two has yet to be determined," said Malchow.

Highway 22X, also known as Spruce Meadows Trail, between 53rd Street and 69th Street S.W. was closed as homicide officers investigated the scene.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.

"Hopefully it will assist in determining the manner and cause of the death," said Malchow.
