Calgary police are investigating after a man showed up at a Dover home early Monday morning with a gunshot wound.

The man knocked on the resident's door around 1:30 a.m. MT to ask for help.

"The resident, who has no connection to the victim or the incident that led up to the shooting, called 911 and assisted the victim until crews arrived," said police in a release.

The wounded man was taken to hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Investigators have determined an altercation broke out at a residence in the 3100 block of 41 Street S.E. and the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the melee.

Police say both the victim and witnesses are not co-operating.

The incident is believed to be drug-related and not random, say police.
