The Alberta Children's Hospital received a $1.6-million donation Tuesday to help kids with traumatic brain injuries.
More than 1,000 children in Alberta have suffered a stroke and hundreds more are rushed to emergency every year suffering a traumatic brain injury.
"Concussion is a major public health concern in our city, in our province and in our country. And there's so much that we don't know about this injury. We're just starting really to appreciate the extent that this injury has, in terms of not just on children, but on their families as well," said Dr. Winne Meeuwisse, who heads the Brain Injury Initiative at the University of Calgary.
The donation comes from the Ronald and Irene Ward Foundation.
