A Chestermere family has made the decision to euthanize the family dog after it bit a boy in the head.

Emergency crews were called to a home in the West Creek area of Chestermere just before 9 p.m. MT Wednesday for a call about a dog bite.

Once crews arrived on scene, they learned the family dog had become aggressive and bit a 11-year-old boy above his left eye.

This boy, who lives at the residence, was taken to a Calgary hospital where he received several stitches to treat the cut and was released.

The seven-year-old, mixed breed dog was taken that evening by the family to a local veterinary clinic where it was euthanized.
