Deadly police pursuit examined in Calgary fatality inquiry
Witnesses gave their accounts in a Calgary courtroom Tuesday of what happened in June 2010 when two men died after an SUV involved in a police pursuit slammed into a bungalow in the city's northeast.
Byron Gray, 29, and his 18-year-old nephew Ryan Gray died after crashing a relative's Jeep Cherokee.
The officers on scene have been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing by provincial investigators, but members of the Gray family say they still question why the pursuit took place and the response by officers and emergency crews at the scene of the accident.
The inquiry is not to establish fault, but instead focuses on the cause, manner and circumstance surrounding the deaths. The fatality inquiry will also look into police pursuit policies and emergency response times.
