A 71-year-old man from Manitoba has died on Mount Victoria near Lake Louise in Banff National Park after falling roughly 150 metres.
Parks Canada says the man was climbing the south summit of the mountain with a partner when he slipped and sustained fatal injuries.
The incident was reported to officials at 6:53 a.m. MT Wednesday.
The man's body was recovered with help from Alpine Helicopters and his next of kin have been notified.
"The thoughts of the rescue team and all Parks Canada personnel are with the victim’s family and friends," said Parks Canada spokesperson Omar McDadi in a release. "We extend our most sincere condolences."
RCMP and the medical examiner's office are still investigating, but foul play has been ruled out.
