A High River couple is trying to make Christmas a little bit easier for flood victims by donating Christmas ornaments to families whose homes were destroyed in the flood.

Heather and David Meszaros have been collecting decorations for the past few months. They say so far, response from across the country has been staggering.

"The response has been astronomical," Heather Meszaros said. "It has snowballed literally everywhere, like from across the country. We had 67 boxes arrive yesterday and you know, within the last 48 hours we've probably had about 300 boxes that have come."

She says they came up with the idea after watching a volunteer trying to clean silt from a basket of ornaments, which made them realize most people store decorations in the basement.

The decorations range from lights and tree toppers to gift boxes.

They will be handed out to High River flood victims over the course of the weekend.

High River was hit hard by the flooding that ravaged southern Alberta in June and early July.
