A teenager has been charged with second-degree murder after a fatal stabbing near Calgary's Drop-In Centre.

John Gordon Walmsley, 42, was found unconscious on Fourth Street S.E. and Dermot Baldwin Way at 6:30 a.m. MT on March 17.

He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and later died from his injuries.

The investigation led police to Edmonton, where officers arrested a 16-year-old on Friday.

The teenager appeared in court on Monday.

Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus said investigators are examining several video surveillance recordings that captured the incident.

It’s believed several more people took part in Walmsley's killing, he said.

"We do believe they were involved in the incident and we do anticipate further charges," Andrus said.

Police are still trying to find out why Walmsley was attacked.
