Calgary has been named the host of Canada's top half marathon championship for the next four years.

Elite runners to compete for top honours in the city starting 2015

Calgary has been named the host of Canada's top half marathon championship for the next four years.

Starting in 2015, elite runners from across Canada will travel to the city to compete for the national title.

Athletics Canada awarded the race to organizers of the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon from 2015 to 2018.

"This honour should come as no surprise," said Mayor Naheed Nenshi in a release.

"I know Calgarians look forward to welcoming racers from across the country who will come here to compete in the championship."

Plans for the 21.1-kilometre race will ramp up following the 50th anniversary of the Calgary Marathon on June 1.
