Calgary ski hill to remain closed due to frigid weather
Canada Olympic Park ski and snowboard park closed after blast of bitter cold
The ski hill and snowboard park at Calgary's Canada Olympic Park will remain closed through Wednesday.
Officials closed the hill on Tuesday as a safety precaution because of the extreme cold.
CBC Calgary weather specialist Craig Larkins says it was a record-breaking start to the day at Canada Olympic Park on Tuesday morning, with the temperature at -24 C — breaking the record of -20 C in 2008.
"COP, along with the rest of Alberta, has been dealing with wind chill values in the -30s today. We can expect these bitterly cold temperatures to stick around on Wednesday," he said.
With the wind chill, the temperature felt like -33 C on Tuesday.
