A Calgary judge will decide next week if Gregory Houle is responsible for beating his common-law wife to death.

Cherry Ledesma was found dead in her home in 2011.

Houle is charged with manslaughter.

The judge heard evidence during the two-week trial that blood from both Houle and Ledesma was found at the scene.

The prosecution also presented evidence Houle tried to keep people from going downstairs.

Ledesma's body had already started to decompose when it was later discovered in the basement under a pile of laundry.

At the time, police said they had been to the home 37 times in the year leading up to her death.

The judge will make a decision next Wednesday.
