Greg Di Valentin, a Calgary man who was rescued from an avalanche in Banff National Park, has died in hospital.
The 38-year-old was airlifted from the avalanche site in critical condition on Saturday.
RCMP in Lake Louise said he underwent surgery, but died Sunday night with his family by his side.
Di Valentin was skiing with three other people in the area of Helens Shoulder when they triggered a slide that buried him. His companions used beacons and probes to find and dig him out and performed CPR until emergency officials arrived.
Di Valentin was a member of the Calgary Scrambling and Mountaineering Club.
"Greg has been an active and enthusiastic member of the mountaineering community and member of several groups and clubs. Greg's enthusiasm and generosity will be missed," said president Tom Waddell in an email to members.
