Calgary police and the RCMP are investigating after a man was found shot early Wednesday morning near the city's northern limits.

At about 2 a.m. MT, police say they were asked to assist RCMP after a man was found near 11 Street N.E. and Highway 566 with multiple gunshot wounds.

The area he was located was rural, and police say there were no indications of where or why he was targeted.

Investigators say he has not been co-operating.

Police say after the 34-year-old man was shot, he went to a home just inside city limits and broke in, then stole a truck from the property.

The man then drove across the road to the north side of Highway 566 where he was discovered by Airdrie RCMP.

He is in stable condition at a local hospital.

Calgary police and RCMP are now working together to determine what happened.
