A Calgary police officer has been charged with sexual assault and criminal harassment, the force said on Friday.

The charges against Const. Jason Oglesby, a six-year veteran, stem from off-duty incidents that happened between March 15, 2008 and May 8 of that year.

The victim is known to the officer, police said in a release.

A complaint was investigated and the findings were forwarded to the Edmonton Crown Prosecutor's Office for review, which decided the charges were warranted.

The officer has been assigned to administrative duties until the criminal trial is completed.

Oglesby is scheduled to appear in Calgary provincial court on May 28.
