Fog advisory in effect for Calgary

Good morning, Calgary! It's partly cloudy and –9 C at the airport at 7 a.m., with a fog advisory currently in effect for the city. Here's what's happening in the city today.


It'll be a foggy start to the day today, but that fog should lift in a few hours time. We're expecting sunshine and a high of 0 C today.

Overnight, the low will drop down to –5 C. Tomorrow, we're expecting a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 7 C. It's expected to be mild for most of the week. Check out the forecast here.

The suspect in a Calgary shooting incident has been shot and killed by police following a lengthy standoff that closed several blocks of a northwest community for hours Sunday evening, police confirmed in a release. Several police units and a helicopter were involved after police received a report of gunfire at about 4:40 p.m. local time in the northwest section of Huntington Hills. Police had cautioned residents near the 1000 block of 78th Avenue N.W. to take cover in their basements.

Calgary police say that the the suspect had discharged several rounds from his home, and that the suspect was known to police. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the incident.

An Alberta father who lost his son in a school shooting in 1999 says he is tired of hearing about gun violence. Rev.Dale Lang's 17-year-old son, Jason, was shot and killed at his high school in the community of Taber. The attacker was a teenager. Last week's tragedy in La Loche was the sixth of its kind in Canada since Lang's son died.
