Calgary Marathon winner breaks 21-year-old record
The winner of the Calgary Marathon broke a 21-year-old record in Sunday’s race.
Benard Onsare, originally from Kenya, ran the gruelling 42-kilometre run in just 2:22:47.
The race marked Onsare’s four-year anniversary as a Calgarian.
Tanaya Gallagher, of Phoenix, Arizona, took first place in the women’s category with a time of 2:54:24
More than 11,000 participants came out for the 48th annual Scotiabank Calgary Marathon, which raised more than $700,000 for local charities.
The race caused some headaches for drivers, as some roads were closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. MT.
