Calgary police have charged a man with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk after a collision killed a woman last month.

The crash happened on Feb. 13 when the woman was struck by a white van that turned onto 10th Avenue from Fifth Street in the city's southwest.

She was dragged for a short distance before the vehicle stopped.

Officials say she had a walk signal and the right of way.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition but later died.

Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the collision. Police say the woman's workplace was nearby when the incident happened.
