RCMP are having a tough time finding the family of a Calgary man who drowned in a lake near Brooks yesterday.
The man was found floating in Lake Newell around 7 p.m. MT Friday.
He was pronounced dead on scene.
The man's identity has not been released, but Const. Wade Oliver from Brooks RCMP said the man was in his mid 30s.
"We just aren't sure what happened. His vehicle was found on the shore, the kayak was floating by itself and he was found in the water," said Oliver.
"Every avenue that we’ve gone down, we haven’t been able to find family yet."
An autopsy has been ordered for the kayaker.
He was wearing a life jacket, but police say it was not fitted properly.
Oliver said the man lived alone in Calgary and has asked that anyone who may be looking for a missing relative in the area to contact police immediately.
