A group of Calgarians plans to get together Wednesday night to bang pots and pans in support of Quebec’s students.

Each night at 8 p.m. many people in Montreal, and across Quebec, flood the streets to make noise against rising tuition fees and Bill 78, a proposed law that would suspend the winter semester and restricts protests.

Casserole rallies — or cacerolazos — originated in Latin American countries as a form of popular protest where people  bang pots and pans.

The Calgary demonstration is set for 8 p.m. MT at Eighth Avenue and First Street S.W. It is one of many actions planned across the country.
