More Calgarians are trying to save money by selling their homes without the help of traditional realtors.

Comfree Commonsense Network, a commission-free brokerage company, says the number of Calgarians listing with the firm has more than tripled in the last year.

"Business in Calgary is incredible for us right now," said company spokesman Scott Bollinger.

Bollinger said during the first six months of last year they had 150 listings in Calgary, compared to just over 500 this year.

Greg Kinloch recently sold his house conditionally after one day on the market using Comfree’s service.

He staged the house and showed it himself but paid a flat fee of $2,500 for marketing and help with negotiations.

"If I can keep money in my pocket for my family versus shelling out dollars to somebody else, I'm going to keep the money."

Kinloch did have to pay a commission to the buyer's realtor. But he still wound up saving about $15,000.

"The difference is the control that the seller has over how much they get and how much they pay. How much work they do and how much they want to roll up their sleeves for a big benefit,” Bollinger said.
